About Popeye
Meet Popeye!
Popeye is a 2-year-old shepherd mix (with maybe a little Great Pyrenees mixed in) who has quite the survival story.
Before coming to rescue, Popeye was living as a stray in the woods. At some point, he got his head stuck inside a plastic container, leaving him unable to eat or drink on his own. Thankfully, our good friend Kacey Hendricks noticed him, stepped in to help, and after a lot of patience and determination was able to trap him and get him safely to the Irving Animal Shelter.
Unfortunately, Popeye spent the next seven months sitting in the shelter waiting for someone to notice him. As the months passed, this sweet boy began to shut down. When we learned about him, we knew we couldn’t leave him behind.
Since coming into rescue, Popeye has completely blossomed. He’s a gentle, affectionate boy who loves being around his people. He can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once he realizes he’s safe, his sweet personality shines through. He loves attention, enjoys being loved on, and is happiest when he’s spending time with the people he trusts.
Popeye weighs about 50 pounds, is potty trained, and walks beautifully on a leash. He also absolutely loves other dogs and has wonderful play manners. Whether he’s making new canine friends or relaxing with his people, Popeye is simply a joy to have around.
After surviving on his own, spending months in a shelter, and waiting far too long for a second chance, Popeye is finally ready for a forever family of his own.
