Meet Benji!
Benji is a tiny Chihuahua with a story that absolutely breaks your heart.
This sweet little guy was found dumped beside a dumpster at a 7-Eleven, barely clinging to life and completely paralyzed due to severe IVDD. Alone, unable to move, and with nobody coming for him, Benji’s future looked incredibly bleak. Thankfully, some wonderful friends of the rescue found him and rushed him to our amazing veterinary team at East Lake Veterinary Hospital, who quite literally saved his life.
Over the next two months, Benji fought harder than anyone could have imagined. Through intensive medical care, rehabilitation, and a whole lot of determination, he slowly began making progress. While Benji will never regain mobility in his hind legs, he did regain the use of his front legs and proved that nothing was going to stop him from enjoying life.
Today, Benji has a custom wheelchair and an incredible foster who has taught him how to use it. And let us tell you—this little guy is FAST. What started as learning to navigate on wheels quickly turned into Benji becoming an adorable little speed racer. He zooms around the yard, races through the house, and lives every single day with pure joy and enthusiasm.
Benji doesn’t know he’s different. He doesn’t feel sorry for himself, and neither should you. He is happy, affectionate, playful, and full of personality. He loves people, enjoys the company of other dogs, and wakes up every day ready to take on the world at full speed.
After everything he’s endured, Benji deserves a family who will love him for exactly who he is—a resilient, happy little dog who refuses to let anything stand in the way of living his best life.
